Help for Oxycontin

Treatment for OxyContin® Addiction

If you have found yourself addicted to the drug OxyContin®, there are many treatment options available to you. You must first be ready to take that first step towards the road to recovery and really want to stop. You can start by exploring the different detox methods that are available to you. If you are serious about quitting, please read on.

You probably already know that OxyContin® or opiate usage release an excess of dopamine in your body and creates the need for opiates in the opioid receptors in the brain. If you suddenly stop using opiates it takes time for your opioid receptors to begin producing dopamine again. This is why you feel so sick without the OxyContin®.

Methadone Treatment

Methadone can stop the withdrawal symptoms that you feel but there are certain drawbacks with this approach. For one, you have to have a methadone clinic near you. You will have to go everyday to the clinic to receive your dose and it is also another form of an opiate. It also can be very addicting and even when the doctors there wean you off slowly, you may experience the same withdrawal symptoms that you felt without your OxyContin®. I have heard that they may even be more severe and last longer than if you quit cold turkey. Although doctors may refer you to a methadone clinic for OxyContin® detox, I would recommend this only if you are injecting the drug intravenously, which can cause death and spread disease.

Subutex and Suboxone

Subutex and Suboxone are a fairly new treatment that does not require a trip to a clinic everyday. Qualified doctors with DEA identification numbers are able to begin in-office treatments for OxyContin® and other opiate abusers. They can also prescribe you with ongoing medication prescriptions. Subutex will be provided to you for the first few days of treatment and then the Suboxone will be used to guard against misuse of any narcotics, including OxyContin®. I understand that this method has been very successful and has few side effects. There are not any withdrawal symptoms at the completion of your treatment.

The Waismann Method

Now the Waismann Method is an entirely different approach to detoxing from OxyContin® and other opiates. It guarantees success, however it is an expensive procedure that requires a hospital stay of 4 to 5 days. They do not accept any insurance so you must pay cash. The cost of the procedure is an astounding $16,800. The hospital is located in Orange County California and has an expert staff on hand. During the procedure you will remain under anesthesia for 60 to 90 minutes while medications to block the opioid receptors in the brain are administered to induce acute withdrawal while you sleep comfortably. Afterwards you will be carefully monitored by a team of nurses in an ICU unit. When you awake you will be cured of your OxyContin® and opiate addiction.

Cold Turkey

Now cold turkey is not the best idea. It is however least expensive method of all. If you can find your will power and stop taking the OxyContin®, more power to you - this is certainly not recommended. You will feel sick. There is no doubt about it. It may take weeks, even months, but in the end you will have a renewed sense of life and feel empowered like you never have before.
